Rene Descartes’ Discourse on Method was written with the premise in mind that there is a sequential approach to guiding one’s reason in order to maximize certainty of knowledge and discovery. Using an autobiographical method, Descartes deliberately does not push his method upon the reader, nor frame it as the best and only method that exists.

It is the first book of philosophy published in French current (previously published scholarly books were in Latin). Rejecting all authority, Descartes explains in simple and accessible to all four rules that should allow everyone to get to the truth: Part of his Discourse on the Method for Rightly Conducting One's Reason and Searching for the Truth in the Sciences (1637) became the foundation for analytic geometry. Descartes is also credited with designing a machine to grind hyperbolic lenses, as part of his interest in optics. Rene Descartes was born in 1596 in La Haye, France.
The original work contained sections on optics, geometry, and meteorology.
